CAPTAIN AMERICA JOINS THE AVENGERS - 80TH ANNIVERSARY, original art, 2021
For Captain America's 80th anniversary Marvel published a tribute issue in which different artists reinterpreted some of Cap's classic stories. Adam Hughes lends his considerable talents to page 6 of the adaptation of the story "Captain America Joins... The Avengers!" that was originally published in The Avengers #4 in 1964. Hughes took an interesting approach to his page, drawing each tier much larger than traditional comic art, each on a separate piece of paper. This piece represents the top tier, and features a panel of Avengers Giant Man, Iron Man, and Thor, and a second panel of Cap jumping back out of harm's way to avoid Thor's hammer. Beautiful work as always from Hughes, and a rare instance of him providing interior art to a comic. Pen and ink. Art is in excellent condition. Signed by Hughes.
